Documents for legal wedding required by Mexican law:

  • Home address and occupations (Bride and Groom)
  • Birth Certificate (Original or certified copy of each one) 
  • Valid passport (Although passports are not required for US Citizens for entry into Mexico, they are mandatory for weddings)
  • Original blood test (To determine Blood type, H.I.V and S.T.D). Tests must be taken at the resort and results are ready within 24 hrs. (Fee of approx. $50.00 per person applies)
  • Certified copy of former spouse's death certificate (If applicable)*
  • Certified copy of Divorce decree (If applicable)*.  If divorced more than once, please bring each divorce decree with the Apostille document attached
  • Legal documentation of adoption or name change (If applicable)*
  • Tourist ID card (provided by customs upon your arrival at Cancun International Airport)
  • Name, age, nationality, home address, occupation, passport and tourist ID of 4 witnesses.  Witnesses must arrive two (2) working days (Monday - Saturday) prior to the ceremony.  If witnesses are not available, Palace Resorts will provide them.
  • Bride and Groom must arrive in Cancun at least three (3) working days (Monday - Saturday) prior to the wedding ceremony to meet with the wedding coordinator and submit all documents.  Bride and Groom must be at the resort by check-in time (3:00 pm) or earlier in order to consider day of arrival.
  • The bride and groom must NOT be legally married in order to qualify for any of our wedding packages.  If they are already married, other services are available.  Please ask about our vow renewal program.
  • IMPORTANT - If the Bride or Groom's nationality is Mexican, additional documents are required.  Please advise your wedding coordinator.  Names on Tourist ID, divorce decree and Passport MUST be the same.

*An Apostille Document MUST be attached to all divorce decrees, death certificates, Adoption and name change documents.  For information on how to obtain the Apostille document, please contact the Secretary of State Office or visit www.state.gov or www.coordinatedlegal.com/SecretaryOfState.html

  • Home address and occupations (Bride and Groom)
  • Couples must make arrangements at least six (6) months prior to the date of marriage and meet all sacramental requirements
  • The Catholic Church makes certain requests of the bride and groom to help the couple with their spiritual preparation.  There is no uniform set of rules for all catholic wedding preparations.  Therefore; please check with your local parish priest to find out what your dioceses requires for Catholic weddings
  • Once all requirements have been completed, your local church needs to send these documents directly to the following address and send us a copy for our records.

Frequently Asked Questions

Requirements
Q. How long do we have to be at the resort before we can get married?
A. For civil ceremonies & Religious Ceremonies 3 business days prior to ceremony date are required (Monday-Saturday are considered business days). Holidays do not apply.

Q. What is the latest time I can arrive at the resort for it to count towards my 3-business day's requirement?
A. Couples must arrive at the resort by 3:00pm in order for that day to be considered as the first day.

Q. Are weddings performed at Palace Resorts legal in the United States?
A. Yes. Civil weddings performed in Mexico are legal in the United States. Please contact your nearest courthouse to find out more information on registering your marriage certificate and obtaining information on whether or not your state requires you to translate the marriage certificate to English.

Q. Do we need to have a passport and birth certificate to get married?
A. Yes. Though it is not necessary for U.S citizen to have a passport to enter Mexico, it is required to have a passport and birth certificate to get married in Mexico.

Q. My passport is expired; will this be acceptable to get married?
A. No. Both bride and groom must have valid and current passports in order to get civilly married at the Resort.

Q. How many photocopies of my birth certificate do I need?
A. You must have the original or a certified copy plus 2 photocopies.

Q. If my name is different from the passport and birth certificate will this present a problem?
A. Yes. All names must be exactly the same including middle names.

Q. Is there any additional documentation required when performing a wedding ceremony at Palace Resorts?
A. Yes. A Tourist Id is required; you will automatically obtain this upon arrival at the Cancun Airport. In addition if either bride or groom have ever been divorced, widowed, had a name change or are adopted an original or certificated copy of the decree or document is required along with an Apostille document. If Canadian please contact the Mexican Embassy nearest you to obtain an Authentication document along with your decree or documents.

Q. What is an Apostille document, why do I need it and where can I get it?
A. The Apostille Document is a special certification document, which is accepted to countries who are a party to the rules of the Hague Convention. The Apostille document enables you to bypass further certification from the US Department of State and immediately send or take your documents to the country of intended use. Please contact your Secretary of State office for information on how to obtain the Apostille Document.

For Canadian Residents the Authentication document, which is obtained from your Nearest Mexican Embassy Office, serves the same purpose as the Apostille document.

Q. If I am a Mexican Citizen and getting married with a foreigner, will I need extra documentation?
A. Yes. Both bride and groom must arrive to the resort 6 business days prior to ceremony date. Foreigner would have to proceed towards Immigration Department to obtain all the necessary documents when civilly marrying a Mexican Citizen. Please contact your assigned wedding coordinator to obtain all the required documents that must be presented.

Q. Can I contact the Immigration Department directly prior to our arrival?
A. Yes. You can contact them to 011-52-998-884-1658.

Q. Is there an out of pocket fee we must pay for the Free Wedding Package?
A. There is a mandatory blood test that must be taken at the resort. The cost is approximately $50.00 per person. Translation fees if it applies to bride or groom.  **Contact Wedding Coordinator for other fees that may be involved.

Q. Can I translate my Divorce Decree and Apostille document prior to our arrival to the resort?
A. No. All translations must be done at the resort. Additional fees apply.

Q. I was divorced less than one year ago. Can I have my civil ceremony at the Resort?
A. Yes. However, a mandatory pregnancy test must be taken. If positive the ceremony will not be performed. No Exceptions.

Q. What diseases do you test for?
A. HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea and all STD's are tested.

Q. Can I have a doctor perform the blood test in my country and take the results to the resort?
A. No. Blood tests must be taken at the resort.

Q. Will I be able to perform the wedding ceremony if one of the tests came positive?
A. No, under the Mexican Constitution couples that test positive cannot get civilly married in Mexico.

Q. Will the judge perform the wedding ceremony if all documents are not in order? Are there exceptions?
A. No. The judge is employed by the Mexican Civil Registry Department and all Documents must be in order. No Exceptions will be made. Please verify all documentation before departure to ensure that you have all necessary documents.

Q. Do we mail documents before we arrive?
A. No. Documents must be hand carried and presented to the wedding coordinator during the time of your interview.

Wedding Packages
Q. Can I get married in my country and still receive the Free Wedding Package?
A. No. The Free Wedding Package can only be obtained if both bride and groom are getting married for the first time. (If you are already civilly married, please ask about our vow renewal packages).

Q. I am a Canadian Resident. Do I quality for the Free Wedding Package?
A. No. The Free Wedding Package is a promotion that is currently available only to USA & Mexican Residents.

Q. Do I qualify for the Free Wedding package if I do not stay at any of your wedding resorts (Moon Palace, Aventura Spa Palace and Xpu-Ha Palace)?
A. No. Our Free Wedding package is only applicable to couples that reside at one of our wedding resorts.

Q. Do you offer any Free Vow Renewal Packages?
A. No. At the moment, all vow renewal packages require an additional cost.

Q. How far ahead must a couple reserve a wedding ceremony to quality for the Free Wedding Package?
A. At least seven business days prior to the couple's arrival to the resort.

Q. Can I purchase one of your Optional Bridal packages individually?
A. No. A general package (Free, Superior, Deluxe or Vow Renewal) must be purchased in order to obtain one of our Optional Bridal Packages.

Reserving a wedding ceremony
Q. How can I reserve my wedding ceremony?
A. A wedding reservation form must be completed with all required information.  You can find this form: Wedding Reservation Form

Q. Will I be contacted once I submit the reservation request form?
A. Yes. Once your form has been reserved, you should receive a written confirmation via email within 24-48 business hours with all the required information. If you are not contacted within this time period please contact us directly at 1-800-635-1836 ext. 6010.

Q. If I am receiving the Free Wedding Packages do I still need to complete the charge authorization form?
A. Yes. This form is required as a guarantee for your wedding reservation. The credit card will only be charged if the wedding is cancelled 45 days or less from the wedding date.

Q. Do you perform ceremonies on Sundays?
A. No. All wedding ceremonies are performed Monday-Saturday only. Holidays do not apply.


Payment
Q. If I obtain the Superior, Deluxe or Vow Renewal Package is payment required immediately?
A. A 50% deposit will be required 14 days after ceremony has been confirmed. The final payment is due 30 days prior to wedding date.

Q. When should payment on all Optional Services be made?
A. Optional Services are to be paid at the resort during your initial interview with assigned wedding coordinator.

Dinner & Menus
Q. Are we able to reserve the restaurant area for our included wedding dinner prior to our arrival?
A. No. Upon your interview with your assigned wedding coordinator. Bride and groom will receive a list of all restaurants and times that are available for this dinner.

Q. What is I have more that 50 guests can I still have my wedding dinner at one of the restaurants?
A. No. the maximum number of guests that we can accommodate at the Aventura Spa & Moon Palace Resorts is 50 guests. At Xpu-Ha Palace 25 guests is the maximum. If planning to accommodate a wedding party with more than 50 guests a private function must be purchased (Pricing is available when speaking with the wedding coordinator).

Q. What locations can I choose to host my private function dinner if I chose to purchase one?
A. Private functions are held in our Ballroom or Terrace Areas.

Q. Can all available menus be served in either the Ballroom or Terrace area?
A. In the terrace area we are only able to accommodate buffet or cocktail functions. In our Ballroom area, any menu can be served.

Q. Is there a maximum or minimum amount of guests to reserve a function?
A. There is a minimum of 15 guests to reserve all functions however; a function can be purchased for fewer guests at an additional charge will apply. A maximum of 40 guests are allowed for all terrace located functions.

General Ceremony Questions
Q. Is the ceremony performed in English or Spanish?
A. The ceremony is performed in English however; it can be performed in Spanish upon request.

Q. Can we have the ceremony performed on the beach?
A. No. Ceremonies must be performed in our wedding gazebos. All wedding gazebos over look the ocean.

Q. Would I be able to ship my wedding dress among some wedding favors to the resort?
A. Unfortunately Palace Resorts no longer allows packages to be shipped directly to the property

Q. Are their any optional services that must be reserved prior to our arrival to Palace Resorts?
A. Yes. If interested in purchasing a live band, religious ceremony, minister, tuxedo rentals or a private dinner functions please contact your wedding coordinator at least 60 days prior so she can confirm these services for your wedding ceremony.

Q. Will I have to contact the wedding coordinator upon my arrival to the resort?
A. No. Upon checking into your room, you will receive an appointment letter from your assigned coordinator informing you on the date and time of your interview.

Q. When do I reserve Salon Services? For example hair appointment, nail services ect.
A. These will be reserved by your wedding coordinator on the day of your interview.

Q. Do you offer more flower selections than the ones that are on your website?
A. Absolutely. Your wedding coordinator will present you with a flower album that includes all bouquet & boutonnieres options at the resort.

Q. If I have guests who want to attend the wedding, but will not be staying at a Palace Resort property, can they still attend the wedding?
A. Yes. However, guests not staying at any Palace Resorts must purchase a day pass upon arriving to the resort. The day pass gives the guests full access to the resorts amenities.

Q. I am getting married at Aventura Spa Palace, can I have my niece whom is 17 attend the ceremony? Will the hotel make an exception?
A. Due to the strict rules and regulations that govern the Aventura Spa Palace an adult inclusive resort we are not able to make any exceptions. All guests must be 18 years or older.

Q. Will our marriage certificate be issued in English or Spanish?

Payment Policy: A 50% deposit of the complete package is required 14 days after confirmation is received.  Final payment is due 30 days prior to ceremony.  A cancellation penalty of $300.00 will apply to all wedding packages if reservation is cancelled within 45 days of wedding date.  Payments should be made payable to:
