Requirements for a Civil Wedding at the Hotel:

  • Passports (mandatory)
  • Birth Certificates translated into Spanish with an "Apostil" (a form of certification that is required by the Mexican Authorities in order to make your papers legal in Mexico)
  • If you are American - please contact the Secretary of State where you were born.  You should send your birth certificates to the Secretary of State and enclose a letter stating that you are getting married in Mexico and that you need an Apostil.  They will then return you the documents.
  • If you are British - please contact the Legalization Department of Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
  • If you are Canadian - please contact the nearest Mexican Embassy or Consulate in order to legalize your Birth Certificate and translation.
  • The Judge keeps your Birth Certificates so we recommend that you bring certified copies rather than the originals.
  • Divorce decree or certificate - if applicable (please advise when either the bride or groom is divorced,
  • Tourist Cards - which every foreigner obtains on the flight down to Mexico (please keep in a safe place)
  • Witnesses - you will need four (4) witnesses with their picture ID and a copy of their Tourist card for your wedding.  They will need to be here at the latest four (4) business days prior to the wedding.  If you do not bring any witnesses, the hotel will be happy to provide them (no extra cost).
  • Blood Test - needed to determine blood type, HIV, RH Factor and Venereal diseases.  They must be taken in Mexico (cost $154.00 USD per couple) directly at the hotel payable in Cash only to the doctor performing the test.

Important Information:

  • The wedding couple and their witnesses must be in Mexico for at least 4 business days (Monday - Friday) before the wedding, not counting the arrival or the wedding day, to meet with the wedding coordinator and to submit all documents.
  • The ceremony will not be performed unless all documents are in order (no exceptions).
  • Marriage License Apostil (for USA and British Citizens) - After the wedding you will receive your Marriage License and an original copy.  In order to make this valid in your country, we as well need to get the apostil for the Marriage License.  We take care of this procedure for a $50 USD charge, payable in cash before the wedding day.  The procedure takes 1-3 months, and as soon as we have it back, you will receive it by courier.
  • Marriage License Original Copies.  Every extra copy is $10 USD payable in cash before the wedding day.  This procedure takes about one month and as soon as we have it back, you will receive it by courier.

Booking your wedding:

Due to the high amount of weddings that we have, we kindly ask you to request the wedding date as soon as possible.  We have a policy of having one wedding per day as we believe it should be your special day.  If you would like to reserve the date, we require a written confirmation at least 6 weeks prior to arrival, always depending on date availability.  We just need an email or fax with the names of the bride and groom, your arrival date, the requested wedding date and time and approximate number of guests; please enclose a copy of your credit card and ID (both sides) as a guarantee for us to save the date.  We do not require a deposit and we do not make any charges prior to the wedding day.  All wedding charges will do onto the room account which you can settle during your stay.  The hotel accepts credit cards (MasterCard, Visa and American Express only), travelers checks and cash.

Here at the Hotel Iberostar Paraiso del Mar & Paraiso Beach, we understand that all couples have their own ideas of how they want their special day to be, we try to be as flexible as possible.  Between now and when you walk down the aisle, you will have lots of questions, please do not hesitate to contact our wedding coordinator (Ms Priscyla Cristobal) by email, fax or telephone so that we can answer any individual questions.  No question is too big or too small.  Please let us help you as much as possible.  We are here to take the stress out of planning a wedding in a different country.

Frequently Asked Wedding Questions

Q. Can we have our blood test taken before we arrive to Mexico?

A. The blood test has to be done in Mexico.  The wedding coordinator will make an appointment for you with the doctor located at the hotel.  There is nothing to worry about.  They use brand new needles and it only takes a few minutes.

Q. As we are All-Inclusive, do we need to pay the $17 USD charge for extra guests over the package of 8?

A. Weddings are not part of the all-inclusive package, therefore you do need to pay the extra charges, as larger groups cost more and take extra services.  The $17 USD charge includes cake and champagne for all of your wedding group as well as an extra dinner in one of our a la carte restaurants for your wedding night.

Q. As I am divorced, what papers do i need to bring?

A. In the case of the bride or groom is divorced you will need to bring your divorce certificate translated into Spanish and with the Apostille or proper legalization.

Q. How far in advance do we have to arrive to the resort before we can get married?

A. You have to be in Mexico for at least 4 business days before the ceremony.  When you require a Blessing instead of the legal ceremony, you only need to arrive 2 business days beforehand, even when it falls on a weekend.

Q. Do you have any suites that we can upgrade to?

A. The Iberostar Paraiso Beach/Del Mar hotels have Junior Suites which you can upgrade to at the time of check-in (depending on availability).

Q. Some of our guests will be staying in Cancun, but we would like them to join our celebrations.  Is this possible?

A. They can purchase our wedding day pass, which enables them to come into the hotel between 8am and 3am when the nightclub closes.  They will then be able to use all of our all-inclusive facilities including the wedding dinner.  Please ask them to bring a photo ID with them.

Q. When do we need to make all our final decisions concerning the flowers, cake, etc.?

A. When you arrive to the hotel, we will have a meeting with you.  During this meeting we will show you an album full of photos from previous weddings.  You can then decide exactly what you would like to have.  Before this, we will start going over the wedding details 2 months before your arrival.

Q. Will I be able to have my wedding dress steamed?

A. We will be able to arrange for your dress to be steamed here within the hotel.

Q. What time of the day will our wedding be?

A. We normally have our ceremonies at 5PM during the months of April and October and at 4PM during November and March.  We have found this to be the best time as the heat of the day has gone, yet we still have enough light to take all your beautiful wedding photographs.  If you prefer a different time, please let us know in advance, so that we can inform the Judge or the Minister.

Q. Can we rent tuxedos when we get to Mexico?

A. There is a place in Cancun that rents tuxedos, but we highly recommend you bring your own outfits.  This saves you any unnecessary stress, as you know that your outfits are perfect because you have tried them on before you arrive.

Q. Will there be a hairdresser to style my hair?

A. We have a Spa located within our hotel.  They have excellent hairstyles and a selection of photos that you can look through to get some ideas.  They are also able to provide massages, manicures, pedicures and facials.  All these services are at an extra charge, and are payable to the Spa directly.  Once you are in the hotel, you can make the appointment directly with the Spa.

Q. What type of music will there be at our wedding ceremony?

A. Included, within the packages is music from a selection of CD's or you can bring your own favorite ones with you.  You also pay for live music - a very popular option with previous couples is the Mariachis.  This is a group of Mexicans dressed in traditional outfits, playing a mixture of music with guitars, a violin and a trumpet.

Q. Where will our wedding dinner be?

A. You can choose from one of our 6 a la carte restaurants - Mexican, Japanese, Mediterranean, Brazilian, Steakhouse or Tropical.  You will find more information about these restaurants in the Bars & Restaurants section of this website.

Q. Can we arrange to get gift bags sent to the rooms of our guests?

A. If you would like us to send gift bags to the guests/ rooms after arrival, we can surely assist you with that.  Please write down the name and the arrival date on the bag or the envelope.  We can only send the gifts to the rooms after the guests have checked in, to avoid confusion in case the guests change rooms upon arrival.  Some suggestions: beach towel, sun cream, after sun, shower gel, disposable camera, body scrub, post card of the hotel, articles from the logo shop.....

IMPORTANT: The above prices are subject to change without notice.  1 USD is approximately 10 Mexican Pesos.
